Dead Messenger is an Exotic grenade launcher introduced in the Season of the Risen and has some special abilities that haven’t been seen before. When fired and upon impact, Dead Messenger unleashes a wave of energy, decimating those in its path.

It can also change energy type, allowing you to cycle between Solar, Void, or Arc depending on the situation you’re in. This is especially helpful in Nightfalls where there are certain elemental advantages thrown in on rotation.

How to get Dead Messenger carry in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen

If you want to experience Dead Messenger for yourself and get to some grenade launching action, you’re going to have to complete the Exotic quest for it. But, before that, you’re also going to need to be a Season Pass owner due to it being behind a paywall. For those without the Season Pass, you’re unfortunately going to miss out once more.

Now, let’s get into the full steps for unlocking Dead Messenger:

• Speak to Ikora in The Enclave to acquire the Rising Tensions quest.
• Complete all 7 steps of the Rising Tensions quest.
• Acquire a new quest called Operation Elbrus from The War Table.
• Complete enough steps of Operation Elbrus until you’re able to debrief with Lord Saladin at The War Table.
• Acquire Kill The Messenger Exotic quest from The War Table.
• Complete the Vox Obscura Exotic mission (recommended Power level 1550).
• Acquire Dead Messenger from the chest at the end of the Vox Obscura mission.

Now you’ve got your hands on Dead Messenger, how do you take it to that new level, blasting your opponents away at will? Well, while the Dead Messenger catalyst isn’t actually available right now, we do know how to unlock it.

All you have to do is complete the Vox Obscura Exotic mission once more but this time, on hard mode. This will allow you to pick up the Dead Messenger catalyst from the same chest you got the weapon from.
